Leone Editore was founded in January 2009 by Antonio Leone, who, after a long experience as an entrepreneur, decided to dedicate himself to his ancient passion: books. A radical change of life and horizon, with the ambition of producing some of those good books that until then he had only read. An objective judgment on Italian publishing: what future does it have and how will it have to evolve to remain active? For a small publisher, just born, life is very difficult. We knew it when we started, and we know it now too. We believe that only one card can be the winning card: choosing each volume we put in the catalog with care and patience. And in these years, although difficult and hard, we have gained some satisfaction and it has repaid us for all our hard work.
On the other hand, we do not hide the fact that the Special Data enormous difficulties in terms of distribution and promotion, the narrowness of visibility spaces (press, web etc.), the distrust that many readers often have towards the many small, and unfortunately unknown, brands, it definitely doesn't make things easier. Even if in recent times we are witnessing a relaunch of independent publishing, seen as freer and less tied to the proven schemes of large groups. Offering something with attention to detail and fresh and innovative compared to many things "already seen" and "already read" remains the best way to make space and gain recognition as a serious and reliable brand. How do you establish a dialogue with your readers? Do you consider it sufficient? First of all through the web. A communication channel is active from our site, through which any reader can write to our authors on a particular email address. This allows us to get an idea of the public's satisfaction and expectations. In Italy we read little: a phrase that we hear too often lately.
What do you think are the reasons for this poor reading attitude and what "measures" do you take - or would you like to take - to increase these numbers? We have the ambition of a popular literature. In the highest and noblest sense of the word; romantic, Manzonian, so to speak. A literature that knows how to represent the expectations of large segments of the population, without chasing vulgar fashions or producing only low-consumption literature. Popular as a profoundly respectful act of the reader and of his different souls, something that can entertain him in an intelligent way, intrigue him without gratuitous vulgarity or obvious gimmicks, arouse real and intense emotions, not ephemeral, hoping to leave a trace, in short. This is why our catalogue, which currently has a focus dedicated only to fiction, presents all the different genres: historical novels in the Orme series , one of our flagships, detective stories, thrillers and noir in Mistéria , just as we give space to children's literature in the Scapestrati.
